Great photography Matt.
It certainly allows us to analyse what is going on.
I think the bottle drop mechanism is close to optimum.
However; the pendulum effect of the bottle under the drouge is quite
prominent. We may not be able to get rid of this effect. The period of
oscillation will be a function of the length of the string. More string is
bad.
It is clear that the glide speed of the Beaver is too slow to have adequate
control. More fine tuning and practice is required.
Jack.

Hi Jack,

do you think flaps would have helped with the rough field landing? Take off was nice
and assertive.

Flaps are normally used to allow a lower speed for landing. The problem was
lack of control at the lower speed, so I am not sure how this would pan out.
Maybe more control over the surfaces in FBW mode is needed, or better
piloting is needed so the aircraft does not get into the situation where
more control is needed.
The model does have flaps and I will implement them in the rebuild.
I must admit I did appreciate the power available on takeoff. It looked like
there would have been trouble if it stayed on the ground much longer.
Jack.
