Yahoo! Ranked No.1 Navigational Network in April

Yahoo! Consistently Outperforms Competitors Since January 1996

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- June 16, 1997 -- Yahoo! Inc. today announced it is again ranked the No. 1 search and directory guide to the Internet according to PC Meterâs April 1997 research results. With 37.4 percent unduplicated reach in U.S. Internet households, Yahoo! remains the number one network followed by the Excite Network (Excite, WebCrawler, City.net, and Magellan) at 30.0 percent and Lycos at 15.2 percent.

Yahoo! also announced that yahoo.com is the single largest guide to the Web in terms of reach and has consistently ranked No. 1 since PC Meter began publishing results in January 1996. In April, yahoo.comâs reach was 37.2 percent, with excite.com following at 19.2 percent, webcrawler.com at 18.2 percent, infoseek.com at 15.4 percent, and lycos.com at 14.7 percent. Yahoo! is also the leading guide among Web users of all experience levels. Yahoo! is No. 1 in reaching light, moderate and heavy users with approximately 80% of heavy Web users using Yahoo! in April.

Among all types of Internet sites, Yahoo! ranks ahead of netscape.com and is second only to aol.com. In addition, compared to the top ten Web sites, Yahoo! ranks highest in average time spent by individual users at the site each month. Earlier this year, Yahoo!'s Finance (quote.yahoo.com) and News (www.yahoo.com/headlines) areas were ranked by PC Meter as the No.1 sources for information on the Web in their categories.

"We have built an unrivaled global network of properties delivering Web users valued programming, content and services," said Jeffrey Mallett, senior vice president, business operations, Yahoo! Inc. "As a result, we've established a leading Internet brand and loyal following of consumer and business users. We are continuing to focus on building the Yahoo! service to support both our users and advertisers."

Traffic across the Yahoo! network of properties reached a new milestone with more than one billion page views for the month of April 1997. The Yahoo! network includes the main Yahoo! site (http://www.yahoo.com) and Yahoo!'s expanding geographic, demographic and shared-interest sites. At the end of the first quarter 1997, Yahoo! announced its traffic had increased 50 percent to 30 million page views per day in March 1997 from 20 million page views per day in December 1996. Traffic on Yahoo! has grown five times in size in the past year, far outpacing the growth rates of other navigational guide and search services.

Yahoo!'s European sites (France, Germany, UK & Ireland) recently announced traffic numbers of more than one million page views per day combined. Initial PC Meter results to be published in France by market research firm Sofres show that Yahoo! France (www.yahoo.fr) is the most widely used World Wide Web site in the country, with household reach of 45 percent, putting it ahead of all other French and international sites.
