Infoseek Completes Transition of Infoseek Branded Site: Go Network™ "Powered by Infoseek" Search

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - May 24, 1999 - Infoseek Corporation (Nasdaq: SEEK), home of GO Network, today announced a milestone in the Company's history - the Infoseek branded site, located at infoseek.go.com, has completed its transition to the GO Network branded site. Infoseek stands as the premier search brand that is the backbone of the GO Network sites. This move underscores the Company's commitment to bringing the GO Network brand to a mass consumer audience and to building on the innovative search capabilities Infoseek has pioneered over the past five years. "Infoseek will continue to invest in and expand its world-class search technology that founder Steve Kirsch first introduced in the pioneer days of the Internet. However, we want to be crystal clear that GO Network is the foremost consumer portal brand we intend to invest in," said Harry Motro, president and CEO of Infoseek. Infoseek is the most popular search engine that utilizes its own search capabilities to serve customer needs, according to the March Media Metrix Web Report.

GO Network "Powered by Infoseek"
With recent advances in its search technology and functionality, Infoseek offers one of the best search solutions on the Web to more than 39 percent of the U.S. Internet population now accessing GO Network for high quality content and valuable interactive tools. "Powered by Infoseek" is now the official seal of excellence that will communicate confidence that users of every GO Network site -- including ABC.com, ABCNEWS.com, ESPN.com, Disney.com, and Mr. Showbiz - are getting the most accurate and relevant search results as an integral part of their GO Network experience. A recent redesign of Infoseek search delivers results pages that are 30 percent faster from a search index that is 50 percent larger. A term highlighting feature helps consumers find their search terms more quickly in result summaries, and a similar search feature offers consumers a selection of suggested queries that can lead to a more comprehensive search on the desired subject.

GOguardian™ is the optional adult content filter that gives GO Network users control over their search experience. Infoseek search results are already highly relevant and give users more closely matched results, even with search queries that other search engines read as "adult related", but GOguardian gives users an additional tool that helps them prevent unwanted or sexually explicit search results. Infoseek employs Extra Search Precision™, a breakthrough search technology developed by Infoseek that dramatically improves the quality of search results for general queries. For the majority of users who routinely use general, keyword (one- or two-word) searches to find information and services, Infoseek technology significantly refines the accuracy of their results because it automatically anticipates the services and information that will be most useful to them.

GO Network Search and Directory Stands Out Among Competitors While many competitors currently license and adapt search and/or directory indices from technology partners, the GO Network search and directory indices are 100 percent developed by the dedicated Infoseek search and directory teams that built and continue to accelerate Infoseek search.

Ultraseek Server "Powered by Infoseek"
Hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies have discovered the superiority of Infoseek search technology through Ultraseek Server, the premier enterprise search solution from Infoseek. Web administrators at companies like Sun Microsystems, Ericsson, and Boeing point to Ultraseek's indexing speed, search prowess, scalability, and ease-of-administration as the factors that differentiate Ultraseek Server from its competitors.

New Home Page at GO Network
In a separate announcement today, Infoseek also introduced a significantly redesigned home page at GO Network. The new page features a "My Page" tab for greater control over the personalization experience, a 30 percent faster page load, easier sign in for GO Network members, and an expanded personalized money section. The search box, now prominently displayed at the top of the faster, cleaner page layout, offers users a search options link to help users narrowly focus their search queries for better results, search tips for quick ways to perform better searches, and a link to the GOguardian adult content filter.
