AltaVista Launches Express Inclusion Service

New Service Ensures Rapid Inclusion and Frequent Update Of URLs

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 27, 2001—AltaVista, the leading global search company at http://www.altavista.com/, and a majority owned operating company of CMGI, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMGI), announced today the launch of the AltaVista Express Inclusion service, the fastest and easiest way for small- and medium-sized businesses to submit website addresses to AltaVista's index. The new service ensures rapid inclusion and weekly updates of specific URLs in AltaVista's index and offers customer tools to easily track and manage submissions.

In a strategic agreement with infoSpider, a Silicon Valley application and infrastructure provider, AltaVista Express Inclusion offers Web marketers unprecedented control by allowing them to submit and manage multiple URLs within AltaVista's index of over 550 million Web pages. Businesses can now submit from one to 500 URLs in a single batch. Once these URLs are included in the AltaVista index, they will be refreshed weekly to ensure the most current information is available to users. AltaVista performs more than 50 million search queries throughout the world everyday.

"This is an ideal method for businesses to control the submission process of URLs and to drive traffic to their sites," said Chris Kermoian, director, Search Services and Web Marketing Services for AltaVista. "AltaVista Express Inclusion offers superior customer support and assurance that qualified URLs will be added to our index and refreshed weekly."

To sign up for AltaVista Express Inclusion, customers must go to http://www.altavista.com/sites/search/express_incl, where they can submit the URLs for inclusion in AltaVista's index. infoSpider then verifies the URLs and submits them for processing, at which point AltaVista crawls the customer's site for information. Sites that meet AltaVista's submission policies will then be ranked using AltaVista's relevancy algorithms. Customers will see their listings in AltaVista's index immediately following the next weekly update.

"infoSpider is excited to work with AltaVista to provide this service, which will benefit Web site owners and users alike," said Sheffield Nolan, CEO infoSpider. "Now website owners can rest assured knowing that their websites will be included in AltaVista's index, making the information available to millions of Internet users around the world."

infoSpider will provide comprehensive customer support, including live chat online, phone support, weekly account updates, and an Account Management Center where customers can access detailed information about the status of their URLs. Through the Account Management Center, customers will also have the ability to edit which URLs are included in AltaVista's index. The pricing structure for the service is based on a six-month subscription rate. Prices range from $12 to $39 per URL, depending on the number of URLs submitted.
