Overture Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Google

PASADENA, Calif., Apr 5, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Overture Services, Inc. (Nasdaq:OVER), the world's leading provider of Pay-For-Performance search to Web sites across the Internet, today announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Google Inc. in the United States Federal District Court in Los Angeles.

The lawsuit charges Google with infringement of Overture's U.S. Patent No. 6,269,361. The '361 Patent protects various features and innovations relating to bid-for-placement products and Overture's Pay-For-Performance search technologies including its DirecTraffic Center account management system and tools.

Since the company's inception, Overture has devoted thousands of combined hours of research and development and tens of millions of dollars to develop its search technologies and innovative systems. Overture owns two patents and has several patents pending relating to its core technologies and inventions. The company intends to enforce its intellectual property rights against those who use its patented inventions without authorization.
