Music Brokerage Grooveshark To Offer 29 Cent DRM-Free Songs For 12 Hours Tomorrow

Promotion designed to call attention to unique P2P music service that ensures payment for all

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007) – Visit Grooveshark tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 12, from noon to midnight EST and purchase any song for just 29 cents.

This “feeding frenzy,” as Grooveshark founder and CEO Sam Tarantino, called it, is just another way the young company is positioning itself as the solution and voice of reason in the firestorm that is raging in the music industry today.

“Recent court cases have proven that illegal file sharing continues to be an issue of concern to everyone,” Tarantino said. “We’re offering a sane solution, a solution we want to introduce to the world: everything is legal and everyone gets paid.”

Grooveshark (www.grooveshark.com) is a peer-to-peer (P2P) music file-sharing community that brokers music files free of digital rights management (DRM) between members. The company’s system features the best elements of online file sharing, ensures copyright holders are compensated for their work and provides consumers with the value of music files that can be played on any computer or device. The catalog of songs available on the Grooveshark network — anything from the Barenaked Ladies to Beethoven — is limited only by what members choose to share on the network.

In addition to 29 cent songs this Friday, Grooveshark is going one step further: starting today Grooveshark has pledged 100 percent of its profits to its community of users in the form of recompensation. This means that Grooveshark has increased the amount the user gets compensated for sharing a song from 10 cents to 25 cents; which is the company’s entire profit margin. Grooveshark plans to leave this plan in place indefinitely.

“We know we have a fantastic product,” Tarantino said. “Call us crazy, but we’re so confident in our product that we are willing to give away our entire profit margin to prove it.”
Both of these promotions are part of the company’s strategy to become the solution and the bridge between the needs and wants of users, artists and labels.

“The point behind our entire platform is that everyone gets paid, and everything is done legally and above board,” explained Tarantino. “We have licensing agreements, partnerships and relationships with nearly 75 major and independent labels, and have more than 3.5 million unique tracks available through Grooveshark.com — all DRM-free.”

The company was founded a year ago, and has signed up more than 5,000 users since its private beta launch Sept. 1. People interested in joining the Grooveshark community can log onto www.groveshark.com to take advantage of this promotion.
