I wrote a short story. It's about unix. It's fiction and it is funny if you get the jokes. Read it [ http://www.cs.hope.edu/~malda/nerds.html ] and tell me what you think if you want. I'm a programmer, graphic artist, cartoonist, and all around swell guy... but I'm no author.

My switch to WindowMaker is almost complete. Here you can see My WindowMaker Page [ http://www.cs.hope.edu/~malda/linux/wmaker.html ] which is just starting up. For now, it has my screenshot and some nice logos and not much more. Mainly I just wanted to get something started so when I finally redo my lame-o green icon bar in my Linux section, I have something to link to...

Wow, here's good stuff for ya... asmodem, ascdc, ascd & asmixer have all been ported to work properly with WindowMaker's fabulous Dock. My WindowMaker page will also be up soon... in the mean time, get my applets, and see my nifty WindowMaker logo on my Gimp page.

Several of you guys have e-mailed me saying you like that Linux logo on top of this page. Several others asked for t-shirts. I have a friend that can make 'em (not just the iron on, the real screen printed ones) if we have enough people willing to pay cost+shipping. If I get a dozen or so replies, I'll see what I can do. Since this page is getting nearly a thousand hits a day, that shouldn't be a problem. Probably be like $20-$25 all told. Lemme know.

I do not have transparent rxvts! They are just pixmaps placed to look that way! I've recieved 7 e-mails so far just today asking that, and its only 10 o'clock! The 200 or so of you who have asked me thus far tell you friends and stop asking about that! I like questions, but I'm really sick of that one!

Recently my site got some cool linkage from the Gimp News & Everybody loves the Gimp (Links on my Gimp page). Thanks for the kind words gentleman... My site got quite a few extra hits, most likely courtesy of your links. And sorry I called Gimp News 'cheesy'... keep up the good work, just don't warn people what the Checkerboard pattern behind an image means ;)

I changed the logo image at the top of this page to a brand spanking new creation. I'm quite pleased with it, but it took awhile to do. If anyone likes it, feel free to use it, but credit me please... I love links.

About Linux

So there are already 6 million Linux pages out there, but why shouldn't there be another one? After all Linux, GNU, and all that jazz are quite possibly the greatest achievements of the free world (At least as important as the Wheel and Fire). The difference is that these things were funded by government and businesses. Linux was created soley by Geeks with a Passion & some Time. Linux makes me proud to be the geek that I am.

When I'm not busy doing artsy crap [ http://www.cs.hope.edu/~malda/hamster/index.html ], I'm a loony Linux nitwit. I'm the guy that compiles a new kernel [ ftp://ftp.helsinki.cs.fi/pub/Software/Linux/Kernel/v2.0 ] every few weeks for no apparent reason. Why do I do this? Because I can. This is after all why I'm booting into Linux not a certain other operating system.

Make sure to check out my extra special sections on some of my favorite things in my favorite OS. These sections are currently The Gimp [ http://www.cs.hope.edu/~malda/linux/gimp.html ] page is under construction, but will eventually feature some of my work, Afterstep [ http://www.cs.hope.edu/~malda/linux/afterstep.html ] contains my screenshots, and various things that'll make you drool over this great window manager and of course My Stuff [ http://www.cs.hope.edu/~malda/linux/mystuff.html ]- which features ascd, asmixer and the rest of the stuff I've written which is available for D/L.

Other Stuff

Every now and then though you just need to reach out and talk to someone. Although IRCII is the defacto standard, I like using Zircon [ http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Programs/Zircon/ ]. It isn't fast, but this nifty little TCL/TK application makes IRC as easy as possible. When you are remote, or just need some down and dirty IRC in your system, try BitchX. I'll see you in #linuxOS...

And last for now, sometimes ya just gotta write a paper. I know this is foreign to some of you, but I still feel the need to reboot into that other OS in order to write my papers. If the boys over at SciTeXt [ http://www.uni-paderborn.de/~SciTeXt/ ] have there way, I may never have to reboot again.
