Industry Leaders to Discuss Linux in the Enterprise at COMDEX/Enterprise San Francisco 98

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., September 9, 1998--Linux International in conjunction with Ziff-Davis will gather a panel of top industry leaders for a critical discussion of Linux in the enterprise, to be held on September 9 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at COMDEX/Enterprise San Francisco 98. The panel features representatives from computing heavy-hitters Informix, Intel, and Oracle as well as Linux implementation and support experts from SuSE, Red Hat, and VA Research.

Linux--an open version of the UNIX operating system--is available as a free download from the Internet and is a strong leader in the Internet service provider (ISP) market. Linux is fast becoming a viable platform in the enterprise, as well, and according to the Linux Online, has an estimated 7 million users. Informix and Oracle have recently announced Linux versions of their products.

This is the first time these industry leaders have come together to discuss the recent surge of interest in Linux Enterprise computing. Nick Petreley, LinuxWorld editor and InfoWorld contributing editor, will moderate. Panelists include: John Downey, Linux product manager at Informix; Sunil Saxena, Intel's manager of Unix Software Strategy; Pari Bhaduri, director of Oracle's Intel Technology Division; Bob Young, president of Red Hat Software; Scott McNeil, president of SuSE USA; Larry Augustin, president of VA Research and director of Linux International.

They review, package and develop Linux-based tools, books and software applications as well as provide technical support and manufacture shrink-wrapped versions of Linux.

SuSE, Inc. [ http://www.suse.com/ ] develops and supports the precision engineered SuSE Linux operating system, which has a high distribution in Europe. SuSE has recently broadened its markets to North America to continue its model of support for the open source community while targeting the business market.

VA Research [ http://www.varesearch.com/ ] is a leading Linux systems specialist, developing Linux workstations and servers for the enterprise, Internet and engineering markets and offering Linux development, benchmarking, compatibility testing, and system configuration.
