VA Linux Systems Launches "Linux Without Limits" Branding Campaign

Company's First Major Marketing Campaign Highlights VA Linux Systems' Linux Expertise and Complete Linux Solutions

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 26, 2000 -- VA Linux Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: LNUX) today announced the launch of its first major brand advertising campaign, "Linux without Limits."

The "Linux without Limits" campaign introduces VA Linux Systems as a company that delivers complete Linux solutions: from Linux systems and software to services and support. The new branding also updates VA Linux Systems' look and feel.

"The 'Linux without Limits' campaign champions the future of Linux and Open Source," said Dr. Larry M. Augustin, president and CEO of VA Linux Systems. "Since 1993, VA Linux Systems has been committed to bringing complete Linux solutions to our customers and supporting and growing the Open Source community."

VA Linux Systems' new ads are scheduled to appear in several publications including InfoWorld, Inter@ctive Week, PC Magazine and Linux Magazine. In addition, VA Linux will run a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal, inviting New York readers to clip a free ticket to attend the LinuxWorld Expo, which will be held February 2-4, 2000. A billboard at the corner of Eleventh Avenue and Thirty-Fourth Street in Manhattan will also point toward the IDG LinuxWorld Conference & Expo at the Jacob Javits Center in New York.

"As Linux's appeal grows and reaches new audiences, it's essential that we articulate a strong, clear message about VA Linux Systems' proposition," said Paul Papageorge, vice president of corporate marketing for VA Linux Systems. "'Linux without Limits' highlights VA Linux Systems' unique expertise in everything Linux: hardware, software, support and consulting."

Mr. Papageorge, a former executive at USWeb/CKS and director of marketing at Apple Computer, was hired by VA Linux Systems in October 1999 to build brand awareness for the company. Mr. Papageorge developed the new brand in collaboration with Broughton & Marchionna ad agency.

The new "Linux without Limits" branding will be reflected in VA Linux Systems' web site in February.
