Novell and IBM to Deliver Proven Network Services to Enterprise Linux Customers

PROVO, Utah — June 24, 2003 — Novell today announced an agreement with IBM whereby IBM will make available Novell's line of Linux offerings, including NovellŽ Nterprise™ Linux Services, to its enterprise customers. Novell recently announced its plan to provide customers the choice of running all of Novell's advanced network services for business - including NetWareŽ services - on the Linux server operating system, and Novell Nterprise Linux Services is an early delivery in that plan (see today's separate announcement).

"We are pleased to see Novell introduce offerings to help customers meet the need for fully supported, advanced network services and functionality on Linux. We believe in the value these offerings will bring to a growing number of IBM customers," said Jim Stallings, general manager of Linux at IBM. "In order to deliver that value to our customers, IBM is working with Novell on this release and subsequent enterprise releases to make Novell Nterprise Linux Services available to customers across the IBM eServer product line."

Novell today introduced Novell Nterprise Linux Services, giving customers file, print, messaging, directory and management services in an integrated package that runs and will be supported on Red Hat Linux and SuSE Linux distributions. Available later this year, Nterprise Linux Services combines the benefits of Linux with proven, rock-solid support and network services from Novell.

Novell Nterprise Linux Services will initially be available for IBM eServer* xSeries* servers, with support for IBM eServer zSeries*, eServer iSeries* and eServer pSeries* servers to follow in subsequent releases. In addition, the next version of Novell NetMail™, Novell's cross-platform Internet messaging solution (http://www.novell.com/netmail), will support the IBM eServer zSeries running Linux.

Novell Chairman and CEO Jack Messman said, "Starting with Nterprise Linux Services and with the support of key partners like IBM, we will give customers a full slate of critical, proven networking services optimized for Linux. Novell's Linux solutions are backed by the full range of Novell technical support, training and consulting services to provide customers with a compelling new datacenter offering and make Linux even more strategic in the enterprise."

Nterprise Linux Services is part of Novell Nterprise, a set of offerings that improve communication, simplify and automate network management, and allow workers to be productive regardless of location, device or platform.
