Apple Delivers New Power Mac G4 with 733 MHz PowerPC G4 Processors

G4 Line Features CD-RW Standard in All Models to Burn CDs & Apple’s Revolutionary New SuperDrive to Burn CDs & DVDs

MacWorld Expo, San Francisco—January 9, 2001—Apple® today introduced a new Power Mac™ G4 line with PowerPC G4 processors running up to 733 MHz, a new high-performance architecture featuring 133 MHz system and memory buses and five slots for increased expandability. The new Power Mac G4 line features CD-RW drives in all models. In addition, Apple unveiled its revolutionary new SuperDrive, a combination CD-RW/DVD-R drive that can read and write (“burn”) DVDs which can be played in consumer DVD players. The Apple SuperDrive comes standard in the top Power Mac G4 model.

With Apple’s new iTunes, the world’s coolest and easiest to use “jukebox” software, all G4 users can burn their own standard audio CDs with the Power Mac G4’s new built-in CD-RW drives. In addition, the Power Mac G4’s revolutionary new SuperDrive and Apple’s amazing new iDVD™ and DV Studio Pro™ software applications let Power Mac G4 users easily and affordably create professional quality DVD videos for playback on consumer DVD players.

“With the new Power Mac G4s, Apple has created the first complete solution for CD and DVD authoring,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Apple’s revolutionary SuperDrive, which can ‘burn’ both CDs and consumer player-compatible DVDs, combined with Apple’s new iTunes and iDVD applications, creates a solution that is years ahead of everyone else.”

iDVD is a breakthrough new application that lets professionals and consumers quickly and easily create professional-looking DVDs for playback on consumer DVD players. iDVD shields users from the complexity of DVD authoring by offering professionally designed themes and drag-and-drop simplicity. With one click, iDVD automatically converts iMovie™, Final Cut Pro® or any QuickTime™ video file into the required format, compresses them into the MPEG-2 compression standard required to make DVDs, and burns the DVD-R disc with Apple’s revolutionary new SuperDrive.

Apple’s new optional DVD Studio Pro application is the perfect complement to Apple’s award-winning Final Cut Pro video editing, effects and compositing software. DVD Studio Pro, the first full-featured DVD authoring tool available for less than $1,000, offers professional-quality DVD encoding, authoring and writing. With DVD Studio Pro, G4 users can encode their Final Cut Pro projects in the DVD format; author DVDs; preview finished projects in real-time; and burn DVD video discs with the G4’s new SuperDrive.

With Apple’s new iTunes, the world’s best and easiest to use jukebox software, users can import songs from their favorite CDs into their Power Mac G4; compress the files into the popular MP3 format; organize their music using powerful yet easy to use searching, browsing, and play list features; watch stunning visualizations on their computer screen; and create custom music CDs with the Power Mac G4’s new CD-RW or revolutionary new SuperDrive.
