IBM Announces New Addition to S/390 Generation 3 Server Family

New Model Features 8-10 Percent Performance Boost

FISHKILL, NY, November 26, 1996...IBM announced today that it is adding an additional 10-way model to its line of CMOS-based, System/390* Parallel Enterprise Servers - Generation 3 (G3). The new Model RY4 will extend the high-end performance range of the S/390 G3 Server family by 8-10 percent. Availability is scheduled for December 2.

The S/390 G3 Servers have doubled the performance over earlier S/390* CMOS models, and are specifically designed for data and transaction intensive customers. When combined in IBM's Parallel Sysplex* clustering architecture, the S/390 G3 Servers offer near continuous computing and virtually unlimited capacity.

The RY4 is possible because of IBM's ability to sort CMOS-based microprocessor chips from the S/390 G3 Server chip manufacturing line that have slightly faster cycle times than required in the original specifications.

"We're extremely pleased to offer our customers even greater, high-end computing performance," said Ross Mauri, vice president, S/390 Hardware Development. "The additional G3 model is evidence of the strides IBM is continually making in our CMOS microprocessor development and manufacturing processes."

For more information about the RY4, customers can call an IBM marketing representative or IBM Business Partner, or call IBM Direct at 1-800-IBM-CALL in the United States and Canada, or IBM FAX at 1-800-IBM-4FAX or 1-415-855-4329.

System/390 is one of IBM's four server platforms. It is the leader in providing large scale commercial, continuous computing solutions at the least incremental cost for customers today and in the evolving collaborative, client/server, network computing market of tomorrow.
