Personnel changes

Roger Bowler

May 30, 2000

I'm pleased to announce that Jay Maynard will be taking over from me
as the custodian and maintainer of Hercules with immediate effect.
Jay has been one of the prime movers in the Hercules project since its
early days. He has made significant contributions in the design and
testing, and he was instrumental in getting MVT working, our first
major success.

I will be taking a rest for a while. I hope that Jay will enjoy the
support and encouragement of the Herculans as much as I have done over
the past year. I would like particularly to acknowledge the work of
Jan Jaeger whose efforts and skills are unsurpassed.

Thanks and regards to you all,
Roger Bowler

New web site

As Roger said in his message, I have assumed responsibility for maintenance
and enhancement of the Hercules package. Please send patches, bug reports,
complaints, and so on to me, at jmaynard@... .

I've put up (more or less) duplicates of Roger's Hercules web pages at
http://jmaynard.home.texas.net/hercules ...which is the new official web
page for the system. Please change your bookmarks to point to this address.

I only plan to keep the current, and one or two previous, versions of the
software on the web page. If you need releases further back and don't have
them, I suggest you grab them now from Roger's page.

In the near future, I plan to add anonymous CVS archives of the system,
which will allow you to get the exact source of whatever version you wish.
In addition to the current tarball of the sources, I also plan to distribute
precompiled RPM files for Intel and Alpha for each version. If you'd like to
build RPMs for other systems, let me know.

Let's see...what else is there? I plan to release 1.62 in the not too
distant future, with several enhancements that folks have been working on.
Roger has done a very admirable job of releasing new versions on a regular
basis, and I hope to keep that up.

I'd like to thank Roger publicly and heartily for all of the work he's put
into Hercules. Without him, we wouldn't be here at all. I've got some very
big shoes to fill.

The 286 members of this list include a large number of folks who have been
prominent contributors to the IBM mainframe world for many years. I'm proud
to be associated with them, and hope to live up to that legacy as well.

Thanks for your support, folks.
