Plug Compatible Mainframe System Manufacturer Receives Follow-On Investment from Intel Capital

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 3rd, 2004 - Platform Solutions, Inc. (PSI), a Plug Compatible Manufacturer (PCM) of mainframe systems based on Intel® Itanium® 2 processor technology today announced Intel Capital's participation in its Series B financing, which was led by Goldman Sachs. PSI announced in August that it received second round financing from Goldman Sachs, Blueprint Ventures, Interwest, and Investcorp. The new funding will be used to support organizational growth and product launch activities.

PSI's vision of providing PCM servers capable of executing IBM's® z/OS® operating system based on the Intel Itanium 2 processor will bring new options to mainframe datacenters and help further drive consolidation efforts. Currently, Intel Itanium 2 systems support a host of operating systems on single server footprints, including UNIX, Windows®, and Linux. Adding z/OS to these systems, an operating system that controls an estimated 60% of corporate data, provides unique integration and data sharing opportunities that have not previously existed for enterprise customers.

"Intel Capital is investing in companies like PSI to help reinforce Itanium 2 processor-based systems' power and flexibility," said Scott Darling, Intel Capital vice president. "PSI's ability to execute the z/OS operating system and integration of the Itanium 2 machine-check architecture with z/OS supports our vision of the Itanium processor family as an open and highly reliable server platform."

"Since its founding, PSI has had a collaborative relationship with Intel focused on expanding the virtualization capabilities of the Itanium 2 processor," stated Michael Maulick, President and CEO of PSI. "Together, we believe that the Itanium processor architecture provides the right platform for lowering costs for IT departments. We're very pleased with Intel Capital's continued investment in our effort to expand the application and use of the Itanium 2 processor-based platform."
