Pathmark stores getting 'AT&T Wireless Express' phone centers

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- October 21, 1996 -- Consumers can now add wireless communications to their grocery list thanks to Pathmark Stores Inc. opening 20 "AT&T Wireless Express" phone centers in its New York metropolitan area stores during the month of October, and its intention to open an additional 60 locations by the end of 1996.

The new "AT&T Wireless Express" centers will offer Pathmark shoppers the opportunity to purchase wireless products and services at highly visible, in-store kiosks, staffed by AT&T representatives. At the centers, consumers will have the option to choose from a variety of telephones and pagers.

"Pathmark is pleased to offer its customers the added convenience of obtaining wireless services as part of the Pathmark One-Stop shopping experience," stated Bob Joyce, executive vice president of store operations at Pathmark Stores Inc. "Pathmark's teaming with AT&T Wireless Services and our recently announced in-store banking office partnerships make Pathmark a destination shopping experience for consumers."

"We are excited about the opportunity to place 'AT&T Wireless Express' centers inside Pathmark stores," said Arvin Goldberg, vice president of consumer sales at AT&T Wireless Services of New York. "These in-store kiosks exemplify our commitment to provide consumers with convenient access to wireless communications."

The "AT&T Wireless Express" centers will be open seven days a week. Center hours are Monday through Wednesday and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The 50 square-foot kiosks will be staffed by three full and part-time trained personnel.

AT&T Wireless Services launched the kiosk program last year in Florida and Pittsburgh. Due to its success, AT&T Wireless plans to expand the program throughout its other markets.

In New Jersey, AT&T Wireless offers cellular telephone service in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties. In New York, it serves the five boroughs of New York, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, and Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island.
