Apple Computer Unveils Improved Apple III Computer

CUPERTINO CALIF - APPLE COMPUTER INC. REINTRODUCED ITS APPLE III PERSONAL COMPUTER IN A VERSION WITH MORE RELIABLE HARDWARE, MORE SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS, EXPANDED MASS-DATA STORAGE AND LOWER PRICE.

THE APPLE III, A DESKTOP MACHINE DESIGNED FOR PROFESSIONAL AND MANAGERIAL USE, HAD MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS WHEN INITIALLY BROUGHT OUT LAST YEAR. THE NEW APPLE III, THE COMPANY MAINTAINS, IS MORE RELIABLE THAN AND HAS MORE THAN TWICE THE MEMORY OF ITS APPLE II PREDECESSOR.

THE APPLE III'S BASE PRICE IS $3,495. A TYPICAL SYSTEM, INCLUDING APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE AND A MONITOR, IS PRICED AT $4,190, $500 BELOW LAST YEAR'S PRICE.

AT ITS DEBUT LAST YEAR, APPLE III LACKED MUCH OF THE NEW SOFTWARE ENVISIONED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ITS POWERS, BUT THE COMPANY ANNOUNCED SEVERAL PROGRAMS NOW ARE AVAILABLE INCLUDING: BUSINESS GRAPHICS III, A PROGRAM TO AID VISUAL PRESENTATION OF NUMERIC DATA; VISICALC III, A NEW VERSION OF ITS POPULAR FINANCIAL FORECASTING PROGRAM, AND APPLE WRITER III, A WORD PROCESSING PROGRAM.

THE NEW APPLE III WILL BE DELIVERED IN MID-DECEMBER, THE COMPANY SAID.
