Commodore Deal With Amiga Set

The New York Times

West Chester, Pa. -- August 16, 1984 -- (AP) -- Commodore International Ltd. said it had agreed to acquire the Amiga Corporation, a small maker of microcomputers that rival machines made by Apple Computer Inc. Terms were not disclosed. Amiga is a closely held concern based in Santa Clara, Calif., and Commodore is a leading producer of home computers.

The acquisition may enable Commodore to introduce a computer with processing power and color graphics capabilities similar to Apple's Macintosh computer, but that costs less. Two months ago Amiga introduced its Macintosh-like computer at a price of $1,500, compared with $2,495 for the Macintosh.
