Microsoft Ships MS OS/2 Software Development Kit with Presentation Manager

REDMOND, WA  -- April 1, 1988  -- Microsoft Corporation today announced the shipment of the latest update of the Microsoft® OS/2 Software Development Kit (SDK). The update includes a complete set of MS OS/2 documentation, a pre-release of the MS OS/2 version 1.1 operating system, and the development tools necessary to begin development and testing of MS OS/2 Presentation Manager applications.

This release of the MS OS/2 SDK is the third update to be released by Microsoft since the first shipment of the SDK in June 1987. Microsoft plans to ship further updates to the SDK prior to final release of MS OS/2 Version 1.1

"This OS/2 SDK update is a major milestone for Microsoft," said Steve Ballmer, vice president of systems software. "It accomplishes our goal of providing developers with early access to a platform for designing, developing, and debugging OS/2 Presentation Manager applications. Although this pre-release of the software still contains bugs, we are confident that the development community can make good progress in developing the great applications software that we expect to be available for the Presentation Manager environment."

The SDK update comprises more than 10,000 pages of documentation and will be shipped in both 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch media formats--a total of 63 diskettes. The update includes:

The Microsoft OS/2 SDK is priced at $3,000. The price includes all the components listed above, plus a DIAL account, Microsoft's on-line technical support service, and eight two-hour videotapes on OS/2 development topics. If one full-price kit is purchased, additional kits can be purchased without the DIAL account for $1,500 each. DIAL can be added for $700 each. All OS/2 SDK licensees receive updates at no cost, including this latest update.
