Powerful personal computing applications and IBM's Operating System/2 are being demonstrated for customers and dealers at the first of three one-day Personal System/2 Forums being held Tuesday, May 23 through Thursday, May 25 at the Radisson Mark Plaza Hotel, 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, Va.

Sponsored by IBM, the conferences include the participation of Microsoft Corp. as well as 13 of the country's leading software developers.

Business people from throughout metropolitan Washington and Baltimore are attending the conference, where they will have an opportunity to learn about applications IBM and industry-leading software developers have designed for the PS/2, using OS/2, AIX PS/2 and IBM Disk Operating System (DOS).

They will also be able to see and hear about IBM's newly announced offerings.

Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman, and Ken Thornton, vice president and area manager with IBM, addressed the audience at the general session, which opens each forum. Dan Lautenback, director of personal systems and display marketing for IBM, is on hand to help host the event and meet with those in attendance.

"The PS/2 Forum offers customers and dealers an excellent opportunity to hear from IBM and from independent software vendors about the direction and benefits of the IBM PS/2 and OS/2 offerings," said Thornton.

The following software companies are participating in the PS/2 Forums: Advanced Business Microsystems, Aldus, Ashton-Tate, Borland International, California Software Products Inc., Computer Associates, Intelligent Environments, Lotus, Micrografix, Microrim, Microsoft, Symantec, WordPerfect and Z Soft.

During 1989, IBM will host PS/2 forums in the following cities: Raleigh, Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, Dallas, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Los Angeles and St. Louis and Washington.
