a group of youthful amateurs, hippies and self-proclaimed "nerds" launched
the personal computer revolution. This online companion to the series of
the same name lets you relive their travails by presenting bios of the
nerds, a history of the personal computer, and an interactive "pick the
computer" game.

PBS FORMS ALLIANCE WITH PERSONAL LIBRARY SOFTWARE INC. TO BRING
REVOLUTIONARY SEARCH ENGINE TO PBS ONLINE
The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and Personal Library Software Inc.
(PLS) announced an alliance to bring PLS's PLWeb search engine to PBS
ONLINE. The new alliance enables visitors to perform searches of more than
25,000 pages of content on PBS ONLINE, or to conduct narrower searches of
content areas within the Web site. The June 6 press announcement is
available on PBS ONLINE.

The opening hour of this three-part series examining America's love affair
with the automobile charts the evolution of the assembly line under Henry

"Black and White in America"

McGinty speaks with people who have been on the front lines of the racial
divide and who have felt the direct impact of programs and policies with

"Personal Belongings"
Tuesday, 6/11 (10-11:00 pm ET)
This program profiles Bela Bognar, who fought against Soviet domination
during the Hungarian revolution. Bognar's son Steven presents his father's
40-year quest for identity and home in this poignant portrait. (CC) Visit

* TRIUMPH OF THE NERDS: THE RISE OF ACCIDENTAL EMPIRES IN SILICON VALLEY
Wednesday, 6/12 (8-11:00 pm ET)
This three-hour program chronicles the birth and growth of Silicon Valley's
personal computer industry, and how youthful amateurs, hippies and
self-proclaimed "nerds" accidentally changed the world. The program
features interviews with some of the industry's most recognizable
characters, including Microsoft's Bill Gates and Paul Allen, and Apple
