Novell Board of Directors Names Jack Messman Chairman

PROVO, Utah — Nov. 13, 2001 — The Board of Directors of Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVL) today announced the appointment of Novell president and chief executive officer, Jack Messman, as chairman of the board, after accepting the resignation from the Novell board of former chairman Dr. Eric Schmidt.

In July, 2001, Messman, formerly chairman and CEO of Cambridge Technology Partners, replaced Schmidt as CEO of Novell following the Novell acquisition of Cambridge. Schmidt currently serves as chairman and CEO at Google, Inc.

In addition to Messman, the Novell board includes: Elaine R. Bond, formerly senior vice president with chief technology officer responsibilities at Chase Manhattan Bank; Reed E. Hundt, a senior advisor to McKinsey & Co., and a principal at Charles Ross Partners, LLC; Richard L. Nolan, professor of management of technology, Harvard Business School; Dr. John W. Poduska, chairman, Advanced Visual Systems, Inc., formerly chairman, CEO and president of Apollo Computer, Inc.; James D. Robinson, III, founder and general partner at RRE Ventures, formerly chairman and CEO of the American Express Company; Larry W. Sonsini, member of the law firm of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati; and Carl Yankowski, formerly CEO of Palm, Inc.
