London (Brand Republic) - Conde Nast has poached Chris Anderson, the US business editor of The Economist, to edit Wired magazine.

Anderson staved off competition from Kurt Anderson, former New York Magazine editor and Inside.com founder; Michael Elliot, most recently of eCountries; and Alex Heard, the former international editor of Newsweek.

Anderson replaces Katrina Heron, who had edited the title since December 1997. She left to find work that would fit better with her family life.

Anderson is expected to take up his post on June 4.
