Western Electric Computer Courses

New York -- May 17, 1983 -- PRN -- Western Electric's total commitment to high quality customer support continues with the announcement of a line of professional-level computer courses for the UNIX(A) System V operating system.  The 16 technical and non-technical courses were developed by Western Electric Corporate Education in conjunction with Bell Laboratories.

The courses were designed for management, operations, user and maintenance groups, and will be offered at Western Electric's Corporate Education locations beginning June, 1983.  Individually, the courses address all facets of UNIX System V activity. Together, they form a complete education program.

The 16 courses are organized by five curricula paths designed to allow customers the flexibility of custom-tailoring the education most relevant to their specific needs.

The availability of the first ten courses in the UNIX System V curricula was announced this week at the National Computer Conference in Anaheim, Calif.  They will be available at Western Electric training locations near Princeton, N.J., Chicago, and Columbus, Ohio. A West Coast training location in the Sunnyvale area is expected to be announced in the third quarter of this year.

The ten initial UNIX System V offerings are:
   -- UNIX System Internals
   -- UNIX System Porting Seminar
   -- Shell Command Language for Programmers
   -- C Language for Experienced Programmers
   -- Overview of UNIX System Products for Managers & Supervisors
   -- UNIX System Administration
   -- Software Development Under the UNIX System
   -- Shell Command Language for Users

   -- Fundamentals of the UNIX Operating System

The six additional courses planned to be offered this fall are:
   -- Fundamentals of the UNIX Operating System for Programmers
   -- UNIX System Document Preparation
   -- UNIX System Tools
   -- UNIX System Device Drivers
   -- UNIX System/C Interface
   -- UNIX System Text Editor ed

Course prerequisites are based upon the skills and knowledge needed to handle the subject matter.  Prerequisites are being provided to enable customers to select the most appropriate curriculum path.  All courses with lab sessions will be equipped with one terminal for each student.

The UNIX System Internals course, UNIX System Porting Seminar, and the UNIX System Administration course are open only to employees of a company holding a UNIX System V Source License.
