I have heard that the next Berkeley release is going to
come with a free ersatz Emacs, somewhat like what you can
get from CCA for a price.

Zimmerman is now asking you to help him make improvements
in a spirit of cooperation.  But will you get the results
in a similar spirit of cooperation?  No!  (It should be
stated that Zimmerman may not have wanted it this way,
but nevertheless it is so, and he has acquiesced.)

So before you are led down a one-way street, investigate the
possibility of working to improve the editor that you can use free.

and there is no emacs (Gosling, or otherwise) on that tape...
