A.T.&T., Olivetti In Europe Venture

LONDON, July 3, 1984—The American Telephone and Telegraph Company and Ing. C. Olivetti & Company said they had formed a venture, Unix Europe, to expand the market in Europe for A.T.& T.'s Unix System V computer operating system.

The venture, with equal stakes owned by each company, will start with 15 employees in London and will initially seek as customers the largest European computer makers and software houses. Unix licensing will begin about July 16. A.T.& T. owns 25 percent of Olivetti, the major Italian producer of office equipment.
