UNIXWARE 7 ARRIVES - THE MOST ADVANCED OPERATING SYSTEM FOR VOLUME INTEL
SERVERS

SCO's Broadly Supported UnixWare 7 Aimed at Departmental & Enterprise
Network Computing, Establishes Foundation for 64-bit Intel Systems

UnixWare 7 Launch, Santa Cruz, CA (March 10, 1998) - During a worldwide
satellite broadcast today, SCO (NASDAQ:SCOC), with support from leading
enterprise partners, announced the availability of UnixWare 7, marking the
delivery of the industry's most advanced operating system for volume Intel
servers.

SCO unveiled details of the UnixWare 7 product line, including five
"purpose-built" UnixWare 7 operating system configurations, including the
Enterprise Edition, Departmental Edition, Intranet Edition, Messaging
Edition and Base Edition (Editors note: please see attached product family
summary for further technology details).

"UnixWare 7 is the result of almost two years of design and development,
integrating the world's two most popular UNIX Systems for Intel servers -
SCO OpenServer Release 5 and SCO UnixWare 2," said Alok Mohan, SCO's
president and chief executive officer. "We have raised the bar for
operating systems on the Intel platform, positioning SCO to aggressively
compete in departmental and enterprise computing markets where a new
generation of enterprise-class Intel servers are displacing proprietary
RISC systems."

Unmatched Industry Support
As the only hardware vendor-independent UNIX System provider, SCO is
supported by the largest set of leading enterprise OEM and ISV partners.
OEMs including Compaq, Data General, HP, Hyundai, IBM, ICL HPS, Fujitsu/ICL
in Europe, Siemens Nixdorf, Unisys and others, have endorsed the UnixWare
platform as the standard UNIX operating system for volume Intel
processor-based servers. Leading ISVs such as Oracle, Baan, BEA, CA, IBM
DB2, Informix, Netscape, Progress, Sybase, and others have also endorsed
the UnixWare platform whose customers can benefit from the new features and
functionality in UnixWare 7.

"The combination of Oracle8(tm) and UnixWare 7 technology will allow users
to achieve excellent performance, ease-of-use and cost benefits," said Gary
Bloom, senior vice president, Oracle Corporation. "UnixWare 7 brings new
power for the Intel platform in a network-centric environment. Now our
Intel customers can run extremely large databases and get performance at a
volume system price point."

UnixWare 7 combines the power, reliability, and scalability of the UNIX
System with the value and versatility of a standard Intel platform. The
UnixWare 7 product line is equipped with unprecedented levels of memory and
filesystem support for Intel servers, as well as 64-bit extensions in
preparation of 64-bit Intel systems next year. With SCO's Tarantella
technology, a Webtop interface, optimized Java support, advanced Netscape
technology, and Network User Licenses (NULs), SCO has designed UnixWare 7
to excel in the new generation of server-centric, network computing
environments.

Doug Michels, SCO's executive vice president and CTO, said, "UnixWare 7 has
been architected to deliver the best performance, scalability, reliability
and security for Intel servers. In essence, UnixWare 7 removes the typical
arguments for RISC UNIX systems in the enterprise. And with new powerful,
multi-processor Intel hardware in the market today, the UNIX on Intel value
proposition has never been stronger."

UnixWare 7 Product Family: "Purpose-Built" Configurations
The UnixWare 7 product family initially consists of five "purpose-built"
configurations designed to address specific enterprise and departmental
computing environments. These configurations include integrated services
to deliver powerful, reliable, scalable and flexible server solutions.
UnixWare 7 configurations include:

( Enterprise Edition: Optimized for high-end enterprise servers to run
large-scale business applications and databases.

( Departmental Edition: A robust application or database server for
reliably sharing business-critical information with any client including
PCs, Network Computers, terminals and any Java-enabled browser client.

( Intranet Edition: An industrial-strength Internet/Intranet server for
enterprise-wide Web publishing and ideal for e-commerce, extranet and
Internet applications.

( Messaging Edition: For departmental and enterprise-wide Internet mail and
messaging servers with powerful and reliable remote messaging capabilities,
universal client access and simplified administration via built-in
directory services.

( Base Edition: A solid foundation for building dedicated or specialized
server environments, such as telecommunications equipment and other
embedded systems.

SCO also offers a comprehensive set of Optional Services that extend and
complement the functionality provided in UnixWare 7 servers. Available are
Internet Services (Internet, Intranet, extensions), High-Reliability and
Availability Services (advanced clustering, online data management, and
RAID software services), Windows Integration Services (Windows compatible
file/print), Scalability Services (NULs, multi-processor support and
main-memory extensions).

In the second half of 1998, SCO will deliver a "purpose-built"
configuration designed to address the small to medium business and
replicated site markets, currently dominated by today's SCO OpenServer
Release 5 system.

UnixWare 7: The Most Advanced OS for Volume Intel Servers
Based on the new, highly-scalable SVR5 UNIX kernel technology, UnixWare 7
supports 1Tbyte files/filesystems and 64Gbytes of main memory for a total
storage capacity of 76,800Tbytes, far surpassing levels currently
attainable by other Intel server software. Embedded technologies such as
Multi-path I/O, Hot Plug PCI and I2O API's strengthen reliability,
availability and serviceability. UnixWare 7's highly-flexible Webtop
interface and SCO's Tarantella technology, drastically improving overall
system manageability. Its memory model, compilers and commands have been
designed with 64-bit computing in mind, preparing developers and IT
managers to easily move to 64-bit systems.

The "Develop-On" Platform
In a related announcement today, SCO unveiled new developer programs and
The UnixWare and OpenServer Development Kit (UDK). ISVs and IT developers
will have access to a comprehensive set of products, support, education and
go-to-market benefits, as well as a single development platform to produce
robust Java and network computing applications that run on UnixWare 7, SCO
OpenServer and SCO UnixWare 2.x systems. Please see
http://www.sco.com/developer for more information.
