From: Christian Menge Subject: [Paparazzi-devel] Hello! Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2006 09:28:58 -0700 (PDT) Guys, Just a quick hello, I'm new to the site, I thought I would introduce myself and tell you about my experience and goals. I worked as a rotoray and fixed wing pilot and flight engineer in Canada for just about 9 years. Most commercial helicopter operations in Canada involve VERY isolated locations. The largest helicopter operators are based in the Arctic, Yellow Knife, NWT. This is a very cold and difficult place to live, most of my contracts involved forest fires, animal tracking, maintenance of government research facilities, oil, gas, NORAD, etc. I was tired of the poor conditions and decided to move into computers. Over the last six years I have been working as a C developer and technical manager for several different simulation companies. Recently I have had a strong urge to become involved with aviation again and I was thinking UAV's might be cool. I live in a city with lots of crime, drugs, prostitution, etc. Having a UAV that patrols some of the streets providing visual assistance to police, fire is a good idea and I'm surprised this is not being done by others. My goal would be to possibly provide some type of surveillance platform that could quickly move from one area to another and provide real time video from the sky looking down at the streets below. Has this been done by anyone in the past? Cheers! Christian
