[Canberrauav] 2nd pandaboard dead Andrew Tridgell tridge at samba.org Sun May 13 19:30:31 EST 2012 Hi All, Unfortunately it looks like our 2nd pandaboard is now dead. Jack and I were working on the Mugin today, and started to get all of the cabling and fitting of components sorted out. As part of that we took the UBECs from the Telemaster, tested that they were producing the right voltage, and used them to power the pandaboard and network switch in the Mugin. When we switched it on, the pandaboard lit its red LED (which we now know means over-voltage). It didn't boot so we put a multi-meter on various connections and found the pandaboard was at 12V. We immediately disconnected and examined each of the parts and found the castle creations UBEC from the Telemaster was giving 12V, not 5V. This is despite us having tested it a few minutes earlier and confirmed it had been giving the right voltage. The pandaboard still boots, but all its USB ports are dead. The ethernet adapter does come up but nothing else. That means it can't connect to its SSD for the root filesystem. It case its just USB bus power that is dead, we've tried powering the USB bus separately, both by using a powered hub and by using a USB cable modified to give 5V from another source. Using the pandaboard diagnostics SD image I can see the USB bus, but only the host controller, hub and ethernet adapter show up. No other USB devices show up. One notable thing is that some of the pandaboard chips run very hot now. Perhaps the 12V caused a short? Stephen, I believe you've ordered a Pandaboard ES? Do you know when that is due to arrive? Anyone else have another pandaboard? Cheers, Tridge
[Canberrauav] Pandaboard Update Stephen Dade stephen_dade at hotmail.com Mon May 14 21:45:08 EST 2012 Hi all, We received the Pandaboard ES today, and spent a few hours this evening setting up the board with Tridge. There was some trouble with the SD card not booting correctly. This was fixed by re-installing the bootloader onto the SD card (but the original Pandaboard working fine with the card for some reason.). We're at the stage where the new Pandaboard should be flyable this weekend. Andrew (Moss) - if you could bring along those spare Pandaboards to the MHV meetup tomorrow night, we can organise potential sharing of the boards between the teams. Thanks Stephen
