[Canberrauav] Recap of this weekend Stephen Dade stephen_dade at hotmail.com Sun Jul 1 18:07:12 EST 2012 Hi All On Saturday Jack, Tridge, Matt and myself worked on upgrading the CyberMugin to APM2, in addition to installing the new camera mount (the camera is now able to roll-correct). We also fitted v1 of the failsafe module (http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/721). This module is able to switch the control surface input between the APM and RC controller (since the APM2 doesn't have a hardware failsafe). We discovered that this doesn't seem to work if the APM loses power. This will be looked into for v2 of the failsafe. On Sunday, we flew the new-and-improved CyberMugin. First off, we went through a thorough checklist to ensure we hadn't missed anything from the APM upgrade. The first flight was short and simple, with Tridge tuning the APM parameters for a smooth auto flight. This proved to be surprisingly easy (I think Tridge had pre-loaded some example parameters for large aircraft). Our second flight was very successful. We clocked over 30 minutes of automated flight towards our D3. The CyberMugin was exceptionally responsive when turning to a new waypoint, with no rollercoastering of altitude/heading between waypoints. Unfortunately, the CyberMugin had a rough landing at the end of both flights, collapsing the nose gear (quickly fixed though) both times. The first time, the CyberMugin touched down too late and didn't have enough runway to stop on. The second time the engine cut out during the landing approach (most likely due to not-quite-correct engine tuning) and Jack had to glide the CyberMugin down to the runway. Due to this, Jack will be looking at constructing a stronger nose gear. In addition the nose cone is now very battered - we should be able to easily construct some spares though. The 900 MHz radio cut out during both flights too. This was due to the antenna connectors vibrating loose during flight. This has now been rectified via sticky tape. I've created a small video of today's flights at: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=569164868925 (you shouldn't need a Facebook account to access it). I'll make a Youtube version later tonight. -Stephen
[Canberrauav] Recap of this weekend Andrew Tridgell tridge at samba.org Mon Jul 2 07:26:51 EST 2012 Thanks for the summary Stephen! I've put some logs up here: http://uav.tridgell.net/Mugin/2012-07-01/flight2/ and a screen shot showing the waypoints overlaid on the auto flight path here: http://uav.tridgell.net/Mugin/2012-07-01/flight2/mugin-auto-70m.png it shows that the tuning is now very good, and we can follow waypoints very accurately, even with the high wind. Cheers, Tridge
