[Canberrauav] Weekend Recap

Hi everyone,

This weekend was more testing of the auto-takeoff and landing.

Tridge's Pulse aircraft performed an auto takeoff and landing in a single
flight. This was the first time we literally pushed a button and the APM did
the takeoff, flew a mission and successfully landed all by itself.

We also did a few takeoff runs with the Mugin (I wasn't able to stay for
this bit, so I don't know how successful this was).

I've also started making some sunshades for the laptops. I should have 2
ready in time for Sutton.

Answer - we did some runs along the strip at a speed designed to be just
under takeoff speed, with the intention of tuning the stability in holding
direction.
The exercise turned out to be too complex with the requirement to do the
test while switching modes and throttle settings. The Mugin ran off the
strip at speed and not only broke the nylon bolts, but also the fibreglass
bracket that holds the nosewheel leg, This actually delaminated, showing how
poorly it was originally manufactured.
We do have a replacement, but I also plan to repair or replacwe the
original.
We hope to carry out the tests during the week so that we are ready for the
tests at Sutton. However, I think the test is too difficult to do on the
short CMAC strip. We may have to just do the automatic takeoff, and hope to
manually overcome any instability problems on the way.
Jack.
