I've concluded that the GPL does allow distributing Emacs
linked with a memory extender *provided* the extender comes
with the compiler you compile it with.  This portion of the GPL
permits it, because the compiler counts as a major component
of the operating system.

    ...the source code distributed need not include
    anything that is normally distributed (in either source or binary
    form) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and so on) of the
    operating system on which the executable runs...

So there's no problem with the Windows port that was announced a
couple of days ago.

I had to let some time elapse so I could feel confident of this
conclusion, before stating it.
