Linuxcare Names Experienced Technology Executive Fernand B. Sarrat Chief Executive Officer
May 4, 1999 -- Linuxcare, Inc., the leader in technical support, consulting, education and product certification for all distributions of Linux, announced today the appointment of 25-year technology-industry veteran Fernand B. Sarrat, 48, as its new CEO.
Prior to joining Linuxcare, Sarrat held the positions of President and CEO of Cylink Corporation, a California-based security and cryptography firm. In the one-year period 1996-1997, Sarrat doubled Cylink sales with a revitalization initiative that transformed the custom-project firm into one offering products with broad market appeal. Before leading Cylink, Sarrat spent 23 years as a top executive at IBM. His career at IBM culminated as General Manager, Network Centric Computing Marketing and Services, where he launched a broad set of innovative Internet- delivered industry solutions.
"Linuxcare has built a strategic business model that puts the company at the center of the accelerating global adoption of Linux as an enterprise computing platform," said Sarrat. "I look forward to strengthening the company's deep roots in the Linux community, and helping Linuxcare scale up to meet the needs of enterprise customers worldwide."
"Fernand brings a wealth of technology industry experience to Linuxcare," said Arthur Tyde, Linuxcare's founding CEO, who, as Executive Vice President, will remain in a strategic management role at the company, focusing on operations and external relations. "Given our growth and the massive opportunities before us, we long ago determined the need for experienced, world-class leadership. All of us at Linuxcare are delighted to have such tremendous skills at the helm of our firm. Fernand's market vision will further extend the company's leadership."
