VA Linux Systems Ships FullOn 2x2 Rackmount Server
Advanced Design and Price/Performance Ideal for Web Servers and Scientific ClustersSUNNYVALE, CA -- November 9, 1999 -- VA Linux Systems, a leading provider of Linux-based solutions, integrating systems, software and services, announced today that it has started shipping its newest system, the FullOn 2x2 server. The FullOn 2x2 rackmount server is optimized for Linux server applications ranging from Apache Web serving to Beowulf clustering.
The FullOn 2x2's ground-breaking design makes it the first in a new generation of 2U (3.5") servers that is easy to manage, service and upgrade. The FullOn 2x2 is available with up to five hot-swappable 1" and 1.6" SCSI drives and SAF-TE compliant enclosure monitoring, and is the first 2U system with tool-less access to many components in under 5 minutes.
"We designed the FullOn 2x2 to respond to the needs of our customers, who rely on VA Linux to provide them with Internet infrastructure and scientific computing solutions," said Dr. Larry M. Augustin, president and CEO of VA Linux Systems. "The FullOn 2x2 offers enterprise level reliability, availability and serviceability, and it's been designed from the ground up to run Linux well."
The FullOn 2x2's price/performance, unusually high storage density (up to 180GB), expandability and scale make it an ideal fit for most co-location environments. The FullOn 2x2 supports an optional low-cost single-channel or high-performance three-channel RAID controller for applications requiring maximum data reliability and availability, such as e-commerce.
"Internet sites are driven to demand the best system, price/performance and storage capacity they can in the smallest reasonable rack space," said Paul Santinelli, vice president of technology and applications for Global Center, Inc. "VA Linux Systems' new FullOn 2x2 server may be the industry's best answer to these requirements."
The FullOn 2x2 is available in a variety of flexible configuration packages, starting at under $2900. Other significant improvements over VA Linux Systems' 501 server line include: two full-sized 33MHz, 32bit PCI slots; up to 2GB of ECC DRAM; three or four status LED indicators; and three rack mounting options.
Each FullOn 2x2 server comes with VA Linux Systems' standard service and support, including a one-year warranty and one year of six-incident toll-free technical support. Customers may add additional support and service options, or take advantage of consulting services offered through VA Linux Professional Services.
The FullOn 2x2 will be shown at VA Linux Systems' exhibits at the Comdex Linux Business Solutions Expo (Booth #718) and at Supercomputing '99 (Booth #403).
