club involvement week Matthew J. Probst Fri, 08 Sep 2000 09:21:05 -0700 Are we doing anything (like having a booth) for BYU's club involvement week next week? -- -matt
Re: club involvement week Ammon Sutherland Mon, 11 Sep 2000 12:09:01 -0700 So are we having a booth or not? I didn't see anything this afternoon when I went out, but I hope we've got something planned for sometime this week at least. Just curious who is actually setting that up, and if they need help or anything like that. Do we have concrete plans yet for any of that? Ammon

I remember voting for some last semester. Theron

I remember voting for some last semester. The new club officers for 2000-2001 are the following: President: Levi Pearson Vice President: Ammon Skidmore Secretary: Ammon Sutherland Treasurer: Josh Johnson Sysadmin: Moroni Morales Webmaster: Ryan Byrd They should have renewed out club membership with BYUSA, obtained materials from BYUSA and should be coordinating the booth staffing. -matt

I don't think it's going to be possible at this point to get a booth, but I'm going to look into other ways to get the word out about the club. Hopefully we'll be able to throw the opening social at the end of September or early in October, I'll try to get a date nailed down for that in the next week or so, along with regular meeting times. I'd also like to hear any suggestions or ideas that people have for the opening social or for club meetings, as well as ideas for service projects that we could perform for the University/student body. Thanks for your patience as I get oriented, and I welcome any feedback you'd like to give. --Levi Pearson, UUG President
Meeting Times! levi Thu, 21 Sep 2000 23:16:20 -0700 UUG Members! I've finally got through the paperwork and administrative stuff and now we have officially scheduled meeting times. They're the second and fourth Wednesdays of October and November, with the first on October 11. The room is ESC C285, from 6 to 8pm. We'll have an ethernet port and I believe there's a projection screen for presentations. As for the topic of the first meeting--from the thread on that topic, I thought that it would be appropriate to have a couple of presentations. First on Linux on the desktop, perhaps a demostration of KDE and Gnome and the applications they've got so far. Second would be Linux as a server, showing off something like apache/mysql/php doing something slick. I know some of you have expressed willingness to do presentations on these topics, if you're still up for it please email me and we'll get the details worked out. I'd like to follow-up with a free install CD giveaway and perhaps some free food, though I'm not yet sure how the financial aspect of that would work. I'm open for comments on these ideas and your thoughts on advertising and such. This is our club, and if we pull together we'll all have a lot of fun and get a greater presence for Unix and free software on campus. Thanks for all your suggestions so far, I look forward to seeing them come to fruition throughout the year! --Levi Pearson UUG President
UUG Flyer Ross Werner Fri, 06 Oct 2000 17:11:20 -0700 I tried to email this to you, Levi, but it came back undeliverable. I'm deciding to just go ahead and post it to the list. This is the flyer for next Wednesday in PDF format (xpdf is our friend). If you need it in some other format for some particular reason, let me know. Print it out, spread it around campus--things like that. You know the drill. E-mail me with suggestions, if I totally messed something up, or if you just plain hate the design.
