Apple Computer Inc. Gives The Millionth Macintosh Unit to Jef Raskin
MENLO PARK, Calif., March 19, 1987 -- PRNewswire -- Acknowledging his leadership in development of the Macintosh -- one of the most successful products in the history of the computer industry -- Apple Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), on March 17 gave the millionth unit to Jef Raskin.
Raskin headed the development team within Apple that in 1979 initiated the innovative computer that has become one of the two top personal computer lines. Sales of Macintosh products have now exceeded $1.3 billion at the retail level.
He is now president of Information Appliance Inc., Menlo Park, which is developing other innovations for the industry, including what Raskin calls a "breakthrough" new class of information processor.
The presentation was made by Debbie Coleman, executive vice president of manufacturing of Apple, at Vivi's, a pizza-type restaurant in Monte Vista, Calif., that was the hangout for the Macintosh development team Raskin headed.
