Apple Internet Server Solution 2.0 Lets Web Publishers Easily Create Multimedia-Rich World Wide Web Sites

SEYBOLD-BOSTON, Massachusetts--February 26, 1996--Furthering its commitment to provide comprehensive World Wide Web server solutions, Apple Computer today introduced its second-generation Apple Internet Server Solution for the World Wide Web.

Apple Internet Server Solution 2.0 couples award-winning software from industry-leading Internet developers with Apple's powerful new Workgroup Servers to provide webmasters with a complete web server for creating multimedia-rich sites (see related Workgroup Server press release dated February 26, 1996).

The Apple Internet Server Solution combines over U.S.$4,000 worth of software on a single CD-ROM disk. This software enables customers to easily establish a presence on the World Wide Web. The CD-ROM includes a one-button software installer and the following products:

• WebSTAR 1.2.5 from StarNine, a Quarterdeck company, turns a Workgroup Server into a powerful WWW server. This version capitalizes on Open Transport 1.1 to provide faster web server performance;
• PageMill 1.0, a ground-breaking application from Adobe Systems, allows users to easily create sophisticated web pages without learning HTML;
• RealAudio Server 1.0 from Progressive Networks, allows users to serve audio content from their web site. Real Audio Server requires Open Transport 1.1;
• NetCloak 2.0 from Maxum Development, improves security, simplifies server development and maintenance, and allows webmasters to control exactly how a page looks to an individual client;
• HomeDoor 1.0 from Open Door Networks, allows webmasters to serve multiple domain names from a single Mac OS web server;
• Apple's MacDNS domain name server software for the Mac OS, allows a Workgroup Server to be a primary domain name server and enables webmasters to efficiently spread a large site's load among several Workgroup Servers, using round-robin load balancing;
• ServerStat 1.0 from Kitchen Sink Software, assists webmasters with server log analysis;
• BBEdit 3.5.2 from Bare Bones Software Inc., is a high performance text editor for advanced HTML coding;
• Netscape 2.0 from Netscape Communications Corp., is a leading WWW browser that lets Webmasters view the content they develop;
• AppleSearch 1.5.1, Apple's information search and retrieval software indexes files so WWW clients can search for information stored on the site with the AppleSerach CGI (Common Gateway Interfaces);
• Acrobat Pro 2.1 from Adobe Systems, allows Webmasters to create or translate documents into portable document format (.pdf), a popular cross-platform Internet document standard;
• MapServe and WebMap, image map software from CityNet Express and Kelly A. Campbell, allows webmasters to create and serve image maps;
• Tango and Butler SQL from EveryWare Development, allows webmasters to create powerful web-database solutions. Also included are templates for online catalogs, classified ads and web conferencing. The Butler SQL application package is a trial version and limits databases to 100 records;
• Email CGI from Eric Lease Morgan allows website visitors to send email to a predefined address, even if their browser doesn't support email;
• HyperCard from Apple Computer, a popular software package is easily customized to perform a variety of tasks, such as serving a multimedia database. Also included is the HyperCard CGI.
• AppleScript from Apple Computer allows webmasters to create their own CGIs and scripts to automate repetitive tasks.

The Apple Internet Server Solution CD-ROM comes with a variety of sample WWW pages (home pages, catalog pages and forms), sample databases, online documentation and "how-to" tutorials to help webmasters design their site. WebMaster Macintosh, the bestselling Macintosh web server paperback and CD-ROM by Jeff Evans and Bob LeVitus, are also included.
