Best suggestion I can make is the Hercules 370/390 emulator running under Linux. Won't be blindingly fast, but has been reported to successfully run all three (except for VM/ESA in ESA mode, which requires SIE, something Hercules doesn't have (yet)). Check out the Hercules page at http://www.conmicro.cx/hercules for info. As far as I know, there are no laptops that include PCI or MicroChannel slots in their portable configuration, which precludes your other option (a P/390 board). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO

A number of trainers and ISV's use Flex under Linux on a laptop. Dell makes a good brand for this because the disk options are well suited to OS/390 space requirements. Anyway, on say a 700Mhz laptop you may expect about 12MIPS nominal. The PCMCIA ethernet card is used as a 3172 to give you connectivity. If you've gone to SHARE or WAVV, you may have see one at the Barnard Software, Data21, or Lockstar booth, or Charlie Rice's classes. Peter D.
