Dispelling a persistent rumor
Jay Maynard
May 16, 2001
Since this has come up again recently, I need to spell
it out explicitly:
Hercules is in no way supported, sponsored, or
endorsed
by Compaq Computer Corporation. That was the case even
while I was employed at Compaq, and is certainly true
now that I am no longer an employee. This is also true
of my current employer, Global MAINTECH Corporation.
Hercules is the result of a lot of hard work by
literally hundreds of people. To say that Compaq is
supporting its development is not only false, but
insulting to those others, for it ignores their
contributions.
To whoever continues to spread this rumor: Please
stop.
Now.

Two things I need to say
Jay Maynard
Oct 2, 2001
1) I'd like to thank everyone who's worked on Hercules. Large or small, your
contributions have made it what it is today. I don't say it enough, but lots
of folks have put lots of time and effort, and, in not a few cases, real
money into improving the system. Whether we say it or not, it is
appreciated. Nobody's time or work is meaningless to this project.
2) Once again, I need to say publicly that Hercules is neither supported,
endorsed, nor sponsored in any way by Compaq Computer Corporation. I don't
know why this keeps coming up, but it does. I have not worked for Compaq for
six months now, and even when I did, my work on Hercules was strictly
personal. At no time did I use Compaq funding or time to work on Hercules.
Whoever it is that keeps alleging that Compaq is or was supporting Hercules
in any way, please stop it; all you're doing is sowing seeds of confusion
that I have to spend time straightening out.
