Hercules at SHARE

I gave my (somewhat updated) Hercules presentation at SHARE yesterday
evening. 55 people passed up on free booze at the trade show, and a baseball
game, to attend.

The system was, once again, well received. One guy told me that he came in
looking for a way to end the day gently, and instead was all fired up to
play with the system and get to know it. We handed out copies of the CBT CD
#10 and Volker's Turnkey MVS #3.

I demonstrated installing and running Volker's CD on Windows. The demo took
about 20 minutes, mainly because I was talking while I did it. The audience
was especially pleased by Fish's GUI (the 168-style controls most of all!),
and that it went from zero to running in that short a time frame was quite
impressive. Volker, you've done a great job with the CD. I did get asked if
the Turnkey system could be made to run under VM/370...something to do next?
:-)

Sam Knutson also handed out copies of the Turnkey MVS CD at his
well-attended session, Fully Wired Hot Topics. That got lots of favorable
comments as well.

When I spoke to the MVS SCP Project manager for SHARE at dinner last night
(and she chaired my session, too!), we decided that we'd try to do two
sessions next time around, one the overview presentation, and one a more
comprehensive demo. Since the demo ran well past the allotted time for the
session, I think that's a good idea.

There's a Birds of a Feather session scheduled for 6 PM this evening on the
graying of the OS/390 workforce. I'd love to be there to advance the cause
of the hobbyist/personal-use license, but I won't be able to (my plane will
be landing at Minneapolis right about then). Hopefully, someone else will
pick up the ball.

I'd like to thank everyone involved with Hercules for making things as good
as they are, and everyone who came to the session to hear me talk. It was
very enjoyable.
