Flex-ES

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how the people selling the
Flex-ES systems are getting 30+ MIPS out of 2.0gz Thinkpads? I've
got a 1.2ghz Thinkpad, and the best I ever see with Herc is 12 MIPS.
Is their emulator just more optimized?

Pretty much. Hercules is written in (reasonably) portable C, and works on
lots of different architectures. Flex-ES is written in highly tuned 80x86
assembler. Flex is and probably always will be faster, but geting it to run
well on Itanium will be a major rewrite, and running it at all on (say)
PowerPC even more so.
