z/OS on Hercules

Sep 22, 2003
Has anyone been able to get z/OS (or OS/390 2.10) working on Hercules?
I know about the licensing issues and that is not a problem for us - we
are covered. I just want to know if this is going to work before I get
started on it or whether I will be the first to try ;)

Have you also installed any of the subsystems such as IMS or CICS. What
about USS? Thanks for letting me know it is a workable solution.

It's been repeatedly reported to work, all the way to z/OS 1.4, in 31- and
64-bit mode.
Lots of folks will be curious as to how you're covered for licensing,
though...A suggestion from the list owner: If he's not willing to discuss
it, people, tht's the end of it.

I don't deal with the licensing issues. The folks who negotiate our
contracts with IBM told me we were covered. That's all I know.

Yes. But not for free. If and when you or your company provide
proof of licence then I will provide that information for my usual
consultancy fees. If your company also provide the hard- and
software, I will - for an additional fee - do the installation as
well

Perhaps someone should write a howto that starts with:
1) First call IBM and persuade them to license the OS for you.
2) Give them lots of money for the license.
3) (Proceed with the relatively simple technical stuff here).
