Pirating z/OS
Jay Maynard
Aug 26, 2005
There have been a few messages in the past day or so about how to obtain
pirated copies of z/OS. Please don't do that.
z/OS is, as I write this, licensed to a specific processor by model and
serial number. Running it on any other system except under very limited
circumstances is probably a violation of the license terms. The AD/CD is
even more restricted: it's only licensed for use on a real IBM system or the
Flex-ES emulator.
Those who oppose the continued existence of Hercules often claim it's
nothing more than a vehicle to pirate IBM software. Discussions such as that
one only help their cause. I've removed the offending messages from the
archives, and will ban members from the mailing list if it continues.
Thanks for your cooperation.
