AT&T comments on waiver allowing AT&T/McCaw merger to proceed
WASHINGTON -- August 25, 1994 -- U.S. District Court Judge Harold Greene in today granted AT&T a waiver to the Modification of Final Judg- ment, a step that allows the company to proceed on schedule with the merger with McCaw Cellular Communications.
AT&T issued the following statement in response to the ruling:
"We're pleased Judge Greene has granted the waiver we sought to allow the merger with McCaw to proceed. Now that we have received U.S. Department of Justice approval and Judge Greene's permission for a waiver, we await final ap- proval from the Federal Communications Commission. "Today's ruling is good news for consumers and business customers as well as for competition in the cellular in- dustry. We remain confident that the merger will be com- pleted on schedule."
