Compaq Computer Introduces Personal Computer Line

NY -- COMPAQ COMPUTER CORP. INTRODUCED FOUR 'DESKPRO' PERSONAL COMPUTERS.
THE 16-BIT COMPUTERS EMPLOY THE 8086 MICROPROCESSOR WHICH RUNS SOFTWARE COMPATIBLE WITH INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINE CORP.'S PERSONAL COMPUTERS BUT MORE RAPIDLY THAN IBM'S 8088 PROCESSOR.
COMPAQ SAID THE DESKPRO COMPUTERS ARE ALREADY IN VOLUME PRODUCTION AND THAT DELIVERIES STARTED TO COMPUTER SPECIALTY STORES IN THE U.S. THIS WEEK.
VOLUME SHIPMENTS TO AUTHORIZED DEALERS IN CANADA THE UNITED KINGDOM WEST GERMANY AND OTHER COUNTRIES WILL BEGIN IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.
THE SYSTEMS RANGE FROM A $2 495 MODEL THAT INCLUDES A SINGLE 360K-BYTE DISKETTE DRIVE 128K BYTES OF RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY AND A MONITOR THAT DISPLAYS HIGH-RESOLUTION TEXT AND GRAPHICS ON THE SAME SCREEN TO A $7 195 MODEL WITH 640K BYTES OF RAM ONE 360K-BYTE DISKETTE DRIVE A 10M-BYTE FIXED DISK DRIVE AN INTERNAL 10M-BYTE FIXED DISK DRIVE BACKUP SYSTEM A DUAL-MODE MONITOR AND AN ASYNCHRONOUS COMMUNICATIONS- CLOCK BOARD.
