Message-ID: <25088@sun.uucp> Date: Thu, 6-Aug-87 20:39:28 EDT Article-I.D.: sun.25088 Posted: Thu Aug 6 20:39:28 1987 Date-Received: Sat, 8-Aug-87 18:06:13 EDT Sender: n...@sun.uucp Lines: 29 Keywords: Word Processing Well, it is real, and I went out and bought it. The local dealer was selling it for $270 which is $50 more than Fry's sells the PC version. Considering the differences in market size I find this impressive. Of course mail order places will probably have it cheaper. Some first impressions ? Well it was obviously kinda forced out the door. A couple of rough edges were apparent. First the document icons were having trouble getting them- selves loaded after wordperfect started up. Double clicking them loaded wp (the default tool was wp:wp not :wp or sys:wp (yeah!)) but then WordPerfect wouldn't read in the file. The help system is very nice (it actually uses the help key) but the title of the Help window is Amiga WordPerfect Beta, oops! The feel is a lot like the other versions so I won't go into those standard features (paragraphs alignments etc) but note that it does not attempt to support graphics in any meaningful way. If you want text & graphics on the page get ProWrite or Pagesetter or something. It does have a built in print spooler which is kind of neat, personally I would like to see a generic print spooler for the Amiga. And it deals with hard disks and lots of memory well. Again since I haven't used it much I can't say for sure what any of the other 'features' are. (It has a spelling checker and thesaurus(sp?) just like the PC version) also it is not copy protected. I really hope that it isn't pirated by the border line honest people out there. I would like to see other 'cross over' products from the PC and Mac and pirating can only discourage this activity. A full report when I have banged on it a bit more. --Chuck McManis uucp: {anywhere}!sun!cmcmanis BIX: cmcmanis ARPAnet: cmcma...@sun.com These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.
