Compaq Offering 2 New Computers
The New York Times
July 24, 1990
The Compaq Computer Corporation introduced two high-end personal computers, the Compaq Deskpro 486/ 33L and Compaq Deskpro 386/33L, priced between $9,999 and $19,499 depending on configuration. It also announced a 486-based version of its Systempro line priced between $20,999 and $29,999. The computers, which approach the performance levels of engineering work stations and minicomputers, may be difficult for personal computer retailers to sell effectively, analysts said.
The Systempro line is designed for more than one user and is offered with the Unix operating systems. The computers are based on the Intel Corporation's fastest microprocessors and the Extended Industry Standard Architecture computer bus, the hardware for moving information around within the computer.
