Novell Ships IntranetWare Worldwide

Novell Prepares Channel for Product Demand, Provides Training and Marketing Tools

OREM, Utah -- October 7, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today began shipping IntranetWare™ to its worldwide customer base. Novell shipped IntranetWare to its worldwide distribution channels last week, a week ahead of the previously announced shipping date. IntranetWare marks the evolution of NetWareŽ, the world's leading network operating system, into a full-service intranet and Internet access platform solution for businesses of all sizes. This networking solution enables more than 55 million NetWare customers to preserve their existing network investment while evolving their business networks to embrace Internet standards and technology; it also fulfills Novell's promise to combine its industry-leading networking technology with key intranet functionality.

To prepare its channel for the release of IntranetWare, Novell launched an extensive campaign to educate its resellers and partners about the product and to provide local marketing tools for IntranetWare. A 47-city worldwide tour conducted this summer provided an estimated 12,000 resellers, distributors and dealers with a two-day sales and technical training on IntranetWare. Novell also distributed over 4,000 Market Builder Kits with a variety of sales and marketing tools to help the channel market IntranetWare locally. Novell's channel, the most extensive in the network computing industry, includes over 150 distributors and more than 29,000 resellers worldwide.

"I have a backlog of requests for IntranetWare," said Peter Lesser, director of technology at Kraft, Kennedy and Lesser, an authorized Novell reseller. "Novell has hit on a sweet spot in the industry by providing intranet functionality that builds on the industry-leading NOS my customers have come to rely upon. IntranetWare will allow them to leverage their existing hardware and software investments as they integrate Internet technologies into their network at their own pace. Novell is definitely headed in the right direction with this product."

"We are seeing incredible demand for this product from our customer base," said Denice Y. Gibson, senior vice president and general manager of the Distributed Networks Business Unit at Novell. "Since receiving the IntranetWare beta software and discovering they can extend their existing full-service networks to intranets, our customers have been clamoring for its shipment. We're excited about the delivery of IntranetWare and view it as a huge step in the evolution of NetWare."
