PCWorld shifting to digital-only in U.S.

Framingham, Mass.—IDG Communications announced Wednesday that PCWorld is going all-digital. The August issue will be the last print edition of PCWorld in the U.S.
“Both technology users and marketers have led the way in the shift from print to online, and our decision to end 30 years of PCWorld print publications reflects their preferences,” said Bob Carrigan, CEO of IDG Communications, in a statement. “PCWorld colleagues in the U.S. will now focus on innovative digital-first editions featuring interactive multimedia presented in high resolution.”
Print subscribers will receive digital editions if they register online; current digital subscribers do not have to register again.
“This change does not affect PCWorld.com, which will continue to provide the latest news, reviews and information for all visitors,” IDG said in a statement. The company said that no staff will be affected “because the transition to digital has been underway for years.”
The shift to an all-digital format in the U.S. does not affect PCWorld brands published in other markets. The editorial and graphic elements of PCWorld will be designed for a number of devices, including Android smartphones and tablets, the Kindle Fire, iPads, iPhones, and various PC and Mac systems.
