I haven't heard anything about availability dates; does anyone know? About its UNIX implementation, will it be ULTRIX or AT&T System V with BSD 4.3, or what? This is not the case - Ultrix 4.0 is not yet shipping. If you get a DECstation 5000 in the near future, it will come with Ultrix 3.1D, which is a child release following in the footsteps of the 3.1C release for the DECstation 5400. It is my understanding that the first 3maxes were scheduled to ship the day of the announcement, although consulting with your salesbeing would be a good plan - I'm just a lowly systems wizard, and know nothing of the ways of salespeople. _MelloN_

The code supporting the DECstation 5000 at First Customer Ship is ULTRIX Worksystems Software (UWS) V2.2d. The code supporting the timesharing/server system (DECsystem 5000) is ULTRIX-32 V3.1d. These versions also support all previous RISC boxes (DECstation 3100, 2100 and DECsystem 3100, 5400, 58XX). This code started shipping with the new hardware (April 6th). Version V4.0 (where UWS and ULTRIX finally have the same version number) releases in the June timeframe, but will not be the first version to support the new machines. We simply announced it on the same day as we announced the machines. md
