So I open my trusty CMD.EXE and type "su"....NOT! Okay, so I go to program manager, choose File | Logout, wait for everything to shutdown, then log back in, do my thing, logout again, then log back in, then I realize I forgot to change some protections, log back out, then log back in....you get the picture. Please tell me NT isn't this brain dead. Brian

That is likely to have the following results: -Some people may not be ready to spend ANY more (no matter how small) than is absolutely necessary to complete development and testing of the NT environment. I can certainly understand your position, having put a lot of effort and time into your product. But an anology might be that you wouldn't register or pay to get work done on a lot, until you had finalized the purchase of the property. -Many companies using NT for development right now have already spent a lot of money on their own development efforts, and cannot affort to spend much money (company money at least) at this point, until NT's release, and they start to get a return on their own time and staff investment. -Most people using NT right now are other developers all very busy trying to get their own products finished and ready to move out the door. Not much time to even think about things like shareware registrations :-) -Many people that DO register shareware, only do so after deciding that the product is a useful addition to their daily lives, and having decided that, they know that they will likely continue to use it. If they decide otherwise, they will stop using it and they will not register. That decision takes some time. Perhaps what you need for encouragement is a letter of intent via email from the people who downloaded your product stating whether they like it (or dislike it), and that following release of NT they hope to continue to use your program and therefore will make the effort to send in a registration at that time. How about it? Michael Allison

I would be happy to part with, say $50, to register for your software, but I would like to know how to do some of the things your product must do (pseudo terminals etc) myself - in order to port UNIX freeware to NT. If I register, do I get full source ? Are the techniques used freely available ? Jeremy Allison.

Yes, you can build the FTP v0.01 on the March SDK. We are unable to offer the complete v1.00 source though we may offer partial source. Telnetd v1.00 source is not available. We're still trying to decide exactly how to release telnet, ftp, ftp source, etc. We'll complete this as soon as possible so we can get the product out. At this point, it appears that ftpd and telnetd will be released as crippleware (ftpd and telnetd will have short connection time limits). One fee will register ftpd 1.00, telnetd 1.00, fingerd/faced 1.02, and a couple utilities. > I would be happy to part with, >say $50, to register for your software, but I would like to know how to do >some of the things your product must do (pseudo terminals etc) myself - >in order to port UNIX freeware to NT. > >If I register, do I get full source ?
